April Chapter Meeting – April 27

Join us at 6pm for our regular monthly meeting which takes place on the last Tuesday of every month. Newcomers and visitors are invited to come early at 5:30PM to discuss membership particulars.

Chapter meetings are used to discuss the various happenings within the organization, including project updates and event planning. The meeting concludes with a social hour over pizza. Please join us if you can!

This month, Dr. Paul Brandt-Rauf, Dean of the School of Public Health at UIC, will give a presentation. In addition, Aaron Neuman speak about his mentoring trip with the Vanderbilt Student Chapter to Peru for a water/well project. Please find the agenda attached here.

Location Change: We will meet at the WEST CAMPUS, School of Public Health Building of UIC at 1603 W. Taylor Street. This is not the main campus where we usually have our meetings. There is a parking garage across the street from the school at Taylor and Marshfield. If you are taking public transportation there is a Pink Line stop at Polk Street (and Pauline- walk south from the CTA exit on Paulina one block to Taylor and take a left).

Volunteer/ Training Opportunity: Water Cistern

Green Earth Institute is looking for volunteers to help assemble an underground 25,000 gallon cistern on their property at McDonald Farm in Naperville. This is part of a rainwater harvesting and irrigation system for the farm. The cistern will be assembled using the Aquabox technology (http://www.rainxchange.com/products/aquablox.php ).

7th Annual Green Earth Fair

The 7th Annual Green Earth Fair will take place Sunday Afternoon, May 2, 2010 from 12:30 – 5 PM at the McDonald Farm in Naperville, Illinois. The Fair is a family event with entertainment for children and adults, as well as several informative presentations on converting biomass to energy, beekeeping, rainwater harvesting, the smart grid, organic lawn care, organic farming and others. In the past there was participation from local renewable energy contractors, including some of our own EWB-USA CPC members.

Requested Donation: $5 donation

Join EWB-USA Chicagoland Professional Chapter at the Global Activism Expo
Saturday, April 17, 2010 @ NOON – 6:00 p.m

Hosted by Worldview’s Jerome McDonnell, Chicago Public Radio Presents… is thrilled to again present this remarkable celebration – complete with food, music and over 100 Chicago-area Global Activists, all featured guests of Worldview’s Global Activism Series. On the air for seven years now, the Series continues to be inspirational, and bringing everyone together for this Expo has quickly become an annual event.

Doors open at noon on Saturday and stay open until 6 pm; it’s FREE – so bring your classes, your children, your neighbors, your friends and family.

Last year over 3,500 people attended the Expo – this year we’re expecting more! This year’s festivities will include a Performance Stage, curated by Lethal Poetry, Inc. where the amazing talent associated with many of these organizations will be performing for you alongside remarkable Chicago talent; there will be a variety of food for sale from local ethnic restaurants; presentations will be made by various organizations throughout the day, so that you can better learn what they do and how you can get involved; and this year we’re adding volunteer opportunities as part of the festivities so you can actually get involved right on the spot (check back soon for a complete list of what we have planned!).
